News International Choir, Wapping

The News International Choir is a chamber choir who's membership is drawn from journalists and staff from the News International Group based at Wapping in London. The choir meet every Tuesday lunchtime between 1pm and 2pm for rehearsals at St George's in the East Church. The choir sing a mixture of light and classical repertoire and have their own library of choral repertoire. The choir participated in the 2009 Music in Offices competition and will be entering again next year. The choir perform in their own Summer and Winter concerts at the church, as well as appearing in the corporate Christmas concert alongside the professional choir of St Bride's.

Matthew Jelf is the Music Director of the choir, having joined in 2009. Matthew directs from the piano during rehearsals and is joined by an accompanist for concert performances. Matthew is Music Director of Shalford Choral Society (Guildford), Take Note Chamber Choir (Lambeth), The News International Choir (Wapping), Reading Gay Chorus and Deputy Music Director of the London Gay Men's Chorus, a recent appointment. Matthew also works as a Vocal Animateur running primary school singing workshops for Bedfordshire Music Service and is a professional soloist. Matthew is a member of the Blossom Street Singers, a professional vocal octet based in South London (www.blossomstreetsingers.com). He is also a Baritone with the Philharmonia Professional SIngers Scheme which recently involved tours of Beethoven's 9th Symphony in Madrid and will include Christmas concert engagements at the Royal Albert Hall alongisde the Chapel Choir of King's College, Cambridge with Stephen Cleobury.
